Un nuage de lait

Un nuage de lait.

Such a lovely and evocative phrase that I learned recently from my French tutor. It means “a cloud of milk” and is a much more picturesque way to describe taking your coffee (or tea) with a little bit of milk.

PS – am I the only one thinking of the “clouds in my coffee” lyric from Carly Simon’s You’re So Vain? 😬

  1. That is a lovely, and evocative phrase. This is the way my wife takes her coffee sometimes (when it is a little too strong black).

100% not – I was thinking the same thing.

    1. Glad it’s not just me hearing that old song! I would describe my preference as “coffee with a splash of milk” but that now seems a bit…lacking I guess in terms of the mental image it creates. I think I would get some weird looks if I tried to order a coffee with a cloud of milk here in the States but I can think of it that way when I fix it at home… 🙂
